5. Stay in Athens for 4 nights and departure for Myconos for a 3-day tour. Sea excursions, visit to Delos. The next day, visit to Chora, the capital of the island, the famous church of Parapotiani and Castro. In the south, below Castro, there is a place called Little Venice, with quaint, old houses that seem to be built in the sea. They have wooden balconies and in the past years, they offered the captains direst access to the sea.

In the ridge over there, there is a row of windmills that stand sentinel. This seems to have been the site of the ancient city. The villages of the island have their own local character, dominated by stark white colour, grey rocks and lack if vegetation. 1km south of the town, at Lino, there are the ruins of a tower, known as Portes to the locals. In the same area, in the north, at Platis Gialos, there is a subterranean cistern, known as Yannaros Well (Pigadi tou Yannaroy).

Day 1: Arrival in Heraklion. Meeting with our Representatives. Transfer to the hotel. Dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Guided visit of  ‘HERAKLION . City sightseeing ,the port, Then visit of the Archaeological MUSEUM of Heraklion .  Lunch in Heraklion.  Continue to the Palace of Knossos , the most important Palace of Minoan civilization. Dinner and overnight in the hotel.

Day 2: Excursion to Knossos – the former palace of the King Minos. Afterwards visit of the archaeological Museum of Heraklion. Afterwards you can walk in Heraklion or make a little shopping-tour in the capital of Crete.

Day 3: Breakfast and full day excursion to Gortys, Phaestos and Matala. The bus will first go to the South of the Island – where the area Messara is situated, famous for its richness in fruits and vegetables. Continuing the theme of the magnificent legacy of the Minoans, we visit the Palace of Phaistos, Gortys a classical and Roman city complements of the historical story whilst a swim at Matala completes the day.

Day 4: The monastery of Arkadi was built in the 16th century by a byzantine emperor and suffered many destructions during the Cretan revolutions. The next stop will be Rethymno – a small and old town. It flourished during the Venetian occupation when literature and arts were particularly developed. As it stands today it is one of the most picturesque Greek towns with remnants from both Venetian and Turkish periods. Last visit today is Chania: narrow streets, old Venetian houses, fountains and gardens full of flowers give the town a characteristic local colour not to be found anywhere else in Crete and Greece.

    Day 1: Arrival and transfer to Hotel in Heraklion – Dinner and overnight.
    Day 2: Excursion to Knossos + Heraklion. Knossos is the most famous of all the Minoan palaces. After visiting the palace, a tour of the Heraklion Archaeological Museum follows. Tour continues in the traditional village of Arolithos, where visitors can admire the traditional way of life of Old Cretans and taste some of the finest plates of the Mediterranean cuisine. Last stop will be the archeological site of Tylissos. Return and overnight in Heraklion. Day 3: Excursion to the Lassithi-Plateau with stop at the monastery of Kera, and at the cave of Psychro. It is probably the most famous cave of Crete and together with the well-known windmills the main attraction in the area of Lassithi. Here, by the way, the father of the gods – the great Zeus – was born. That’s what the legends say. We continue our tour, passing the village of Mohos. We’ll stop to make pictures of the fantastic panoramic view down to the blue sea. Next stop is the lovely town of Agios Nikolaos with the possibility to have a stroll in the center and a lunch break. Afterwards we drive to Elounda, from where a ferry boat will bring us to the Island of Spinalonga. Overnight and dinner at the picturesque town of Agios Nikolaos.
    Day 4: Tour starts at the beautiful city of Sitia and continues to the palm forest of Vai with the amazing sandy beach and archeological site of Itanos just 2 klms away. We continue south to the importat acheological site of Zakros. It was the last of the major palaces to be discovered and is smaller than the other three at Knossos, Malia and Phaistos. Next stop will be the southest city of Europe, Ierapetra. Return to Agios Nikolaos for dinner and overnight.
    Day 5: First stop will be the archeological site of Malia, while the tour will continue to some of the most important sites of Crete, Phaestos, Gortys, Agia Triada, Voroi and finally Matala, famous for its old romean caves where hippies used to stay during the sixties. The day will end to Rethymno city, with a small stop at the beautiful and traditional village of Spili.

    Day 7: Today the group will visit the famous lake of Kourna, the biggest in the island, and the beautiful village of Argiroupolis with the famous water springs. We will continue to the the second biggest city of Crete, Chania with a stop in the Akrotiri area where we pay a visit to the grave of the most important politician of modern Greek years, El. Venizelos. Free time in the city of Chania, dinner and overnight in the center of the city.
    Day 8: Participants will have the opportunity to see one of the most important gorges of Europe, Samaria Gorge. The are two options; long way and lazy way. Participants can choose their preferable one. Before entering the canyon the group will make a stop at the beautiful village of Omalos and at the end of the tour, will have the chance to visit on of the most traditional areas of all Crete, that of Sfakia.
